Royal Palace of Milan

The Royal Palace ( Italian: Palazzo Reale) of Milan is the city palace of Milan. Here resided, among other things, the Habsburgs in Lombardy. The residence is located in the south east from the Cathedral Square.

The current external and internal appearance was during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa. After the unification of Italy under the Savoiern the castle was raised to the City Palace in 1919 but issued by the royal family to the Italian State.

Even at the creation of the cathedral square of the east wing of the building had been cut. In the 1930s there was a further impairment: about 60 meters long wing of the establishment of the fascist Palazzo dell'Arengario were sacrificed.

The castle suffered on 15 August 1943 as a result of a British bombing raid severe fire damage. The ceiling of the caryatid hall collapsed. The renovation of the castle was initially slow and partial. Only since the turn of the century, the castle is fully restored.
