Royal Pantheon of the House of Braganza

The Panteão da Casa de Bragança is a Pantheon with the tombs of members of the House of Braganza, which from 1640 to 1853 the kings of Portugal and from 1822 to 1889 also made the Emperor of Brazil. It is housed in the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora in Lisbon.

History

King Ferdinand II (Dom Fernando II ) ranked 1855, the reburial of his ancestors, the monastery church of São Vicente had been buried previously in a small annexe to the main altar, at. Served the former refectory of the monastery for the new Pantheon.

In the hall the stone coffins are lined up on the side walls. The regents are adorned with a crown. Found on the sides in golden letters the names and titles of the dead. Four tombs, including that created by Raul Lino marble Sarkopharge of 1908 murdered King Charles I and his son died with him Prince Ludwig Philipp, stand in the middle of the hall. The mortal remains of King Peter IV, who was also Emperor of Brazil, were transferred in 1972 in the Monumento do Ipiranga in São Paulo.

In the corridor to the Pantheon are buried Saldanha with royal permission of the Duke and Duchess of Terceira and de Duke.
