Royal Statistical Society

The Royal Statistical Society ( RSS ) ( German: Royal Statistical Society ) is a learned society and a professional body for statisticians in the UK. It was founded in 1834 as "Statistical Society of London ': founded ( German Statistical Society of London) just there. Among the most famous former members counted Florence Nightingale, the first female member of the Society in 1858. 1887 was formed from the Statistical Society of London, the current Royal Statistical Society. In 1993, even the Institute of Statisticians was ( German: Statistical Institute ) integrated.

The RSS holds an annual conference; the last one took place at the University of Nottingham in September 2008. The next conference will be held in September 2009 at the University of Edinburgh and celebrate the 175th anniversary of the company.

The Royal Statistical Society awards annually after the British physician and statistician William Guy (1810-1885) named Guy Medal.
