Royal Wotton Bassett is a small town with 11,043 inhabitants ( 2001) and a civil parish in Wiltshire, England.
History
The place was 681 AD, the first mentioned. Archaeologists have demonstrated a settlement already in the Celtic and Roman times. Wootton Bassett is also mentioned in the Domesday Book.
In the early 21st century the place became known for his proximity to the military airfield RAF Lyneham awareness, because through this airport, the remains of the fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan British soldiers were brought back to England since 2007. Royal Wootton Bassett today has no railway station for passenger more, but the place had in the course of time three railway stations. The Wootton Bassett Road railway station was opened by the Great Western Railway ( GWR ) 1840 the railway line from London Paddington.
