Royat

Royat in France is a commune in the Auvergne region in the Puy -de- Dôme in the arrondissement of Clermont -Ferrand. It is the capital of the canton of the same name. The municipality belongs to the Association of Municipalities Clermont Communauté.

General

The relatively small community of 6.62 square kilometers, is located on 457-904 m above sea level at the eastern foot of the Puy -de- Dôme; the town has 4490 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The three- kilometers southwest of Clermont- Ferrand in the D 68 and D 5 e preferred site is traversed by the Tiretaine.

History

Here the Romans used volcanic hot springs. In the 12th century it was known as " Rubacum ," the 13th " Royac " or " Rayac ".

The rediscovered thermal springs made ​​the place since the 19th century to a popular health resort. The iron and carbonated spring water especially to help with arthritis, rheumatism and heart and circulatory diseases.
