Roystonea dunlapiana

Roystonea dunlapiana is a native to Central America palm tree in the genus Roystonea.

Features

Like all members of the genus Roystonea dunlapiana is a single -stemmed, monoecious palm tree with large pinnate leaves. The trunk is gray-white, up to 20 m high with a diameter of about 38 cm. The crown consists of 15 leaves, of which the lowest hanging down below the horizontal. The crown shaft is about 2 m long. The rachis is about 4 m long, the average leaf segments are 78 to 88 cm long and 2.5 to 6.5 cm wide.

The inflorescence is about a meter long and as wide. The appearance of the cover page is not known. The spathe is about two meters long, narrow, pointed, and as long as the crown shaft. The side branches of the inflorescence are up to 37 cm long and have a diameter of 1 to 1.3 mm and are stiff. The male flowers are white, the sepals are triangular, about 1 mm long and 0.8 to 1.8 mm wide. The petals are elliptical to oval, 2.9 to 5.6 mm long and 2.1 to 2.4 mm wide. The six stamens are about 3.5 mm long, the stamens are commended shaped and 2.4 to 4.8 mm long, the anthers 1.8 to 2.7 mm. The latter are purple. The female flowers are unknown.

The fruits are obovate and bumpy 12 to 14.7mm long. The exocarp is purple - black with a flat scar. The endocarp is ellipsoidal and 11 to 13.6mm long. The primary leaf is ribbed linear- lanceolate and weak.

Dissemination

The species is scattered in front of the estuaries and coastal swamps from Mexico to Honduras and Nicaragua. Deposits in Belize are likely, but not known.
