Rubén Sosa

Rubén Sosa Ardáiz ( born April 25, 1966 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player.

Playing career

Association

Sosa started his professional career as a 15- year-old at Danubio FC. He was one of the youngest players ever in La Liga Uruguaya played. In 1985 he moved to Europe. With Real Zaragoza he succeeded in 1986, the victory in the Copa del Rey, when he scored the winning goal against FC Barcelona.

Sosa then moved to Serie A for Lazio. After four years, he was sold to Inter Milan. There he was in 1993 and 1994 leading scorer of the club and the club managed to win the UEFA Cup in 1993/94. However, the new club owner Massimo Moratti obliged the Dutchman Dennis Bergkamp and Sosa decided to leave Inter and Serie A. With his new club Borussia Dortmund, he won the 1995/96 German championship. This season he scored in 17 league games only three goals. When he left Dortmund, he went for one season back to Uruguay to Nacional Montevideo, and in the 1996/1997 season for a year to Spain CD Logroñés.

After only a few unlucky verlaufenen months he made his way back to Uruguay to his favorite team Nacional Montevideo, with which he was national champion three times. In 1998 he was at the end of the season together with Martín Rodríguez ( River) obtained after each 13 season top scorer of the season. In 2002 he went for half a year to China to Shanghai Shenhua and then returned to his home country to Nacional.

National

Sosa participated with the Uruguayan U -20 team at the U-20 South American Championship in 1983 and was runner-up South American champions. In the same year he reached the quarterfinals of the Celeste at the Junior World Cup in 1983. Also in the U-20 South American Championship 1985, he was part of the squad. The Uruguayan team finished in fourth place there. Sosa played between June 1984 and July 16 13 1995 46 times for the national team of Uruguay. He scored 15 goals. He was one of the victorious Uruguayan contingents at the Copa América in 1987 and 1995. Moreover, he took with the Celeste part in the Copa America 1989 Copa America in 1993 and the aligned in Italy World Cup 1990.
