Rubrene ( 5,6,11,12 - tetraphenylnaphthacene ) is a rotfarbener polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon which is used among other things in glow sticks as a fluorescent dye. As a result of chemiluminescence emitted it in this case yellow light.

Rubrene is an organic semiconductor and is used as starting material for the production of organic light emitting diodes ( OLEDs) and organic field -effect transistors. Rubrene has 40 cm2 / (V · s ) on the highest charge carrier mobility for hole transport among organic semiconductors.
