Rüdiger May

Rüdiger May ( * November 26, 1974 in Meerane ) is a German boxer. He is the brother of Torsten May

Professional

After 55 wins in 76 amateur fights was Rüdiger May 1994 at the age of 19 years professional. His first professional fight, he denied on February 26, 1994 in San Jose. After 24 victories against enemy building on 4 September 1999 he won the German Championship Cruiserweight title with a points victory over Silvio Meinel. In his next bout, he suffered his first defeat in the Spanish Ciudad Real against Turan Bağcı, he lost to the Turks on points.

In the following years he defended the title of German champion Firat Arslan vs. Michael Klötzsch and before he got the opportunity on 1 December 2001, against the Ukrainian Alexander Gurov to box the European Championship. Gurov had won the belt before Mays brother Torsten. But Rüdiger May had no chance against Gurov and defeated by TKO in the fourth round.

In a battle for the International German Championship title against Alexander Petkovic he boxed a draw in 2002. On 15 March 2003, he won by a victory over the French Frederic Serrat the vacant European title. This belt he defended three times before he got his second chance to fight for the championship. May succeeded against the reigning European champion Vincenzo Cantatore on 5 June 2004 a draw. That handed the Italians to defend their title.

Following him his promoter Wilfried Sauerland allowed a world championship bout against WBO titlist Johnny Nelson, but May missed the chance and defeated Nelson by TKO in the seventh round.

In April 2005, May fought against Poland Krzysztof Włodarczyk to the EU title, but failed by knockout in the tenth round. Because of alleged lack of prospects in professional boxing his promoter Sauerland let him in September 2005 in a " stable Duel" compete against the emerging and then still undefeated Marco Huck, May lost over ten rounds on points.

After two years of abstinence ring finally Rüdiger May celebrated on 31 March 2007 a ​​successful comeback in the boxing ring. As part of the program rematch fight between Henry Maske and Virgil Hill, he defeated Sven Hazel Grouse from Halle technical knockout in the sixth round. Since October 2007 he is with Arena Box-Promotion under contract. Since then, he completed two fights he could decide for themselves.
