Soon after his start as a stage actor, he was also discovered for the film and worked mainly in West German films. The portly, moon-faced Rhomberg has long been used only in meaningless, sometimes tiny supporting roles. He became known only through the multipart Lausbubengeschichten by Ludwig Thoma 1964 until 1967. Therein acted as the Rhomberg with all sorts of pranks placed in Zorneswallung pastor Falkenberg, called child ( after his favorite words, " Your child "). In When Louis to maneuver draws (1967 ), he also played the brother of the pastor, Sergeant Josef Falkenberg. Ludwig suitor (1969 ), the last Thoma adaptation was previously dedicated to the deceased in the year and showed from the perspective of Ludwig's memories again some of Rhomberg's best scenes as pastor.

His grave is located in Munich's East Cemetery.
