Rudolf Viertl

Rudolf Viertl, ( born November 12, 1902 in Schwechat, Austria - Hungary; † 9 December 1981) was an Austrian football player, who twice won the Mitropacup with Austria and participated with the national team at the World Cup 1934.

Club career

Viertl joined with 14 years at the SK Neukettenhof and moved in 1924 to the first class Simmering SC, where the left winger was able to immediately secure a regular place. He played the next four years in a row next to storm the internationals Johann Horvath and Leopold Danis and 1926 could achieve the best finish in club history with third place. Two years later, however, the Simmering had to dismount as Table and Viertl left the club to join the Austria.

The striker, who was better known for his speed and firepower than his technique, added also rapidly over the run of Matthias Sindelar attack the Violet and finished 1930 ranked third in the scoring charts. The Austria could not play at this time for the title and found himself regularly in mid-table again. However, 1933 could be brought to the OFB Cup, a title which also eligible to participate in the Mitropacup. Here reached the Wiener after victories against Slavia Prague and Juventus the final where Inter Milan was defeated 3-1 after an 1:2 away defeat Ambrosiana.

After two more Cuptiteln succeeded in Austria to repeat their biggest international success, as in 1936 by defeating AGC Bologna, Slavia Prague and the Újpest FC again the final was reached in Mitropacup. Opponent this time was the Sparta Prague and an away goal by Camillo Jerusalem the title was brought. Rudolf Viertl was one of five Austria Africans who were involved in both finals. He stayed until 1939 at the Purple and then moved to the End of career in his hometown of Germania Schwechat.

National

His debut for the national team was Viertl in September 1925 against Hungary. Thereafter, however, he had to wait four years before he again received a convocation, after two games against Czechoslovakia, however, again followed a three-year break, so Viertl had to have no inserts during the time of the miracle team. While he was at that time in the B national team and in the Vienna city selection to use, the left wing for the national team, however, was occupied by Adolf Vogl permanently.

Only in October 1933, he was allowed to play for his country and this time he came to regular operations. He was, for example, in the 2-2 draw in Glasgow there when its first continental European national team on British soil remained unbeaten and he also belonged to the squad of the Austrians for the World Cup 1934, where he was employed in all four matches in the semifinals of the Italians failed. In 1936 he was part of the winning team that defeated England 2-1 in Vienna and drove to a gate at. His last game he played in 1937 against France. In total, he came up with 16 appearances, scoring four goals.
