The terminal or pendent inflorescences are different diverse. Bracts are present or absent. The often large, hermaphroditic flowers are fünfzählig and radial symmetry to zygomorph. The five sepals are more or less equal length, and grow together only at their base. The five petals are fused two-lipped tube- to funnel-shaped. The color of the petals is yellow, white or red to purple. Two of the four fertile stamens are fused together. Two carpels are a superior ovaries grown from two to ten ovules per ovary chamber. The style ends in a non- bilobed scar. Pollination is by insects ( entomophily ).

Usually two to twenty seeds ripen in zweifächerigen capsule fruits. The distribution unit ( diaspore ) is the seed.
