Runcorn is a town in the unitary authority of Halton in England and is situated on the south side of the River Mersey about 20 kilometers east of Liverpool. It has 61 330 inhabitants (as of 2001).

At the time of the Norman Hugh d' Avranches told, the Earl of Chester, his territory into baronies. The Barony of Halton was given dominion over the other baronies. The first Baron of Runcorn, Nigel, built in 1071 a moth ( castle on a hill ) on the Halton Hill. From Halton Castle is today only a ruin receive.

1115 founded the son of Baron Nigel, Willialm Fitznigel, an Augustinian priory in Runcorn. This was in 1134 according to Norton, about 6 km from Runcorn, laid.
