Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring

The Circuit Challenge Nürburgring, formerly Castrol Haugg Cup, is Germany's oldest series for touring car racing. It has been held since the early 1960s, primarily on the Nürburgring- Nordschleife of people and over a total distance of more than 300 km.

Is a performance test. Similar rallies will be moved to sprint laps against the clock, and not fight for position on the track, which reduces the risk of collisions and reduces costs. In addition, pit stops for change of driver or tires can be made in the maximum time rounds, almost without time pressure, resulting in less staff support is needed. In some target time laps a certain lap time must be adhered to. Deviations outside the tolerance shall be counted by a factor of ten as penalty seconds, which in unreliable mode or eg when it rains, the score can strongly influence.

Be organized the eight races of various motorsports clubs that are on the Circuit Challenge Nürburgring eV ( RCN ) have joined forces. One of the races each season traditionally takes place in the framework program of the 24- hour race.

History

For many years, the racing series was sponsored by the company Castrol and AVA HAUGG and was called up to the year 2006 therefore also Castrol HAUGG Cup ( CHC). Since then, the sponsors activities have been postponed, so that the series since 2007, its current name. Main sponsor since 2007, the BMW Driving Experience, a limited liability company to carry out driver training is within the BMW Group.

Sporting Regulations

The most runs the RCN will be held on the 20.83 km long Nürburgring Nordschleife. At the same time on the adjacent Grand Prix track another event to take place (if this is not exactly Formula 1 ), so that the track rent and thus the nominal fee (about 600 euros ) is lower. However, it is only the small pit lane at the grandstand 13 available. These events are almost always held on a Saturday afternoon, mostly following the regularity test (GLP ) instead, which is organized by the same organizer. Normally one heat per year is driven on the Grand Prix version of the Nürburgring, and if possible, one in Spa -Francorchamps ( Belgium) organized. For the first time in the 2012 season was a run on the Euro Speedway Lausitz instead. The season highlight is the drive on Thursday (holiday in some German states ) before the 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring.

The event is defined by the DMSB as performance testing 200 km ( LP200 ), which means that not all cars start together but that the vehicles individually start at a distance of 5 seconds and will not fight for position, but against the clock. This reduces the risk of accidents, also eliminates the qualifying session to determine the starting grid. The total distance is 312.45 km (15 laps of 20.83 km ), is thus larger than that of a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The 15 rounds are divided into two types of rounds:

  • 9 sprint rounds on best time
  • 3 rounds on target time ( with / - 10 seconds on maternity leave)
  • 3 rounds on maximum time for break tank and outlet

Exceeds or falls below a participant in the time limit, so 10 -second penalty will be charged per second. Awkward or undisciplined drivers can easily spoil their chances to win this way. Over the last several years, the focus has shifted from the previous regularity test (GLP ) with few sprint laps on the current race meeting with a few as well as generous set timelines. Starting with the 2012 season takes place a pure race with a rolling start and without any set time rounds. A pure GLP is now carried out separately by the same operator.

Also in the RCN -Light (formerly Michaela Lochmann Trophy ) race cars are started one and drive as not to positions, but against the clock. Here the distance is but 8 rounds:

  • 2 rounds on target time ( with / - 1.5 seconds on maternity leave)
  • 1 round as setting time
  • Round 4 on best time
  • 1 round on maximum time for discharge

In Michaele - Lochmann Trophy was run on more uniformity.

Points are distributed within the class, with the winner according to the usual popular sports distribution formula, depending on the number of starters gets just under 10 points, a midfield -placed approximately 5 points, a backbencher about 1 point Retired any points. For five participants about: 9 points for the winner, then 7, 5, 3, 1 To the winners of the strong field classes achieve the most points, whereby the master others is often on an inexpensive vehicle against many go. The use of a high-profile Porsche can make the daily total victory, but hardly achieve points for the championship due to lack of competition.

Technical Regulations

What is needed is a vehicle that is equipped with at least roll cage, fire extinguisher, emergency stop circuit and splinter protection for the windows. In addition to street-legal or even certifiable vehicles also take part in pure racing cars. The vehicles are divided into the following groups: VLN - series car, Group F, Group N / DN, GT -2, 24- Special, Group H.
