Rupes Recta

The Rupes Recta or straight furrow - formerly known as Long wall - is a prominent step in the terrain on the moon. It borders on the large, slightly wavy Mare Nubium against the smooth surface of its eastern bays and is clearly seen in glancing light of the half moon phases by their shadows, even in small telescopes.

If the shadow boundary of the terminator is more than 20-30 ° away, that is two days later, the structure disappears and is only in larger telescopes (from about eight inch ) to see. After three days, it is practically invisible.

The length of the furrow is indicated in the literature selenographic 96 up to 130 km, with its height about 250 meters and its width is 2-3 km. Thus, contrary to earlier researchers moon it is not an escarpment is but a stage with some 10 ° inclination, which, however, very straight really stand out for its shape.

The selenographic coordinates of the center furrows are 21 ° South and 8 ° West.
