Rurrenabaque Municipality

The municipality Rurrenabaque is a district in the department of Beni in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Rurrenabaque is one of four Municipalities of the province Ballivián and is located in the southwestern part of the province. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Reyes, in the west and southwest by the La Paz Department, and to the east by the municipality of San Borja.

Largest city and central location of the district is the town of Rurrenabaque with 8,460 inhabitants ( 2001) in the northwestern corner of the municipios.

Geography

The municipality Rurrenabaque is located on the western edge of the Moxos level, with more than 100,000 km ², one of the largest wetlands in the world; dominant vegetation type in the Moxos level is the tropical savannah.
