The Rush River is a tributary of the Minnesota River and runs completely in Sibley County in the U.S. state of Minnesota, but its hydrological basin also includes parts of Nicollet and McLeod County.

Course

The Rush River begins at the confluence of its middle and its northern source river, about 94.1 ° W and 44.5 ° north latitude. From this point it flows mainly in the east, the southern source river flows approximately 94.0 ° W and 44.5 ° north latitude. From this point it flows in an easterly direction to about 4.6 km ( 2.9 miles ) north-northeast of Le Sueur (Minnesota), at its confluence with the Minnesota River, which flows from here to the northeast to its confluence with the Mississippi River.

Northern branch of the Rush River

The northern branch of the Rush River is fed from Titlow Lake and flows southeast to the confluence of the middle branch of the Rush River about 12.5 kilometers ( 7.8 miles ) southeast of Gaylord (Minnesota) where the actual Rush River starts.

Middle branch of the Rush River

The middle branch of the Rush River rises near Gibbon (Minnesota) and flows from its source to its union with the Northern branch directly to the east.

Southern branch of the Rush River

The southern branch of the Rush River rises between Winthrop and Lafayette, a little more than 16 km (10 miles ) west-southwest of Gaylord in the vicinity of the boundary between the Sibley and Nicollet County and from there flows in a north-easterly direction to the mouth of the Rush River.
