Russ Manning

Russell George Russ Manning ( born January 5, 1929 in Van Nuys, California, † December 1, 1981 in Long Beach, California ) was an American comic book artist.

Life and work

After successful completion of high school Manning studied at the Los Angeles Art Institute. He spent his military service in Japan and Korea, where he was responsible among other things for the Army newspaper comics. After completing military service in 1953, he began drawing comics for various newspapers, including for the publishing houses Dell and Gold Key. In 1963 started Mannings series Magnus - Robot Fighter, which he supervised until the year 1968. A year later, he created Korak. In 1965, Manning was charged with drawing the Tarzan albums. This was followed in 1967 the daily strips and in 1968 the Sunday pages. A few years before his death, Manning working Wars stories in the comic book adaptation of the Star.
