Rustaveli Theatre

The Academic Shota Rustaveli Theater - (Georgian შოთა რუსთაველის სახელობის აკადემიური თეატრი ), short Rustaveli Theatre (Georgian რუსთაველის ტეატრი ), is a state theater in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was founded in 1878 as an "artist - community" (Georgian საარტისტო საზოგადოება ). Since 1921, it is named after Shota Rustaveli, a Georgian poets and writers of the Middle Ages. The director of the theater were Kote Marjanishvili (1922-1926), Sandro Akhmeteli (1926-1935), Mikheil Tumanischwili (1968-1969), Temur Chiedze (1969-1979) and Robert Sturua (since 1979). The building in which the Rustaveli Theatre is located, was built in 1898-1901 for the artist community. It is located in the street Rustaveli Gamsiri in the center of Tbilisi.
