Ruthenian Voivodeship

The Ruthenia Voivodeship ( also historically Rothreußen ( Red Russia ) or Rotruthenien; Latin Palatinatus russiae, Polish ruskie WojewĂłdztwo or Galicja, Ukr Руське воєводство ) was an administrative unit of the Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth, composed from 1366 to 1772, the province of Malopolska lay.

By the first partition of Poland about 80 % of the province in 1772 came as Galicia the Habsburg monarchy, that later the Republic of Cracow. The northern part of Ruthenia became part of Prussia. The former residence of Lviv was the capital of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria and the fourth largest city of the Habsburg multinational state.

Today, the area between Poland and Ukraine is divided. In earlier work, these parts of the country are also known as West and East Galicia Galicia.
