Rutu Modan

Rutu Modan (born 1966 in Tel Hashomer, Tel Aviv District ) is an Israeli cartoonist and author of graphic novels.

Life

Rutu Modan parents worked as doctors at Sheba Medical Center / Tel Hashomer Hospital, Ramat Gan, and she grew up there and in the region of Tel Aviv. She studied until 1992 at the Bezalel Art Academy of Arts and Design and was then treated with Yirmi Pinkus editor of the short-lived Israeli edition of the magazine Mad 1995, both co-founders of the artists group Actus Tragicus. Modan published their comics in various media and has written several children's books. In 2007 she wrote her first graphic novel.

Modan was nominated at the 2001 Ignatz Award. She received in 2006 along with Tim Dinter, Jens Harder, Yirmi Pinkus, Guy Morad and Jan Foes Cargo for a mention at the ICOM Independent Comic price. In 2008, she was honored for exit wounds with the Eisner Award.

Modan lives with her husband and two children in Tel Aviv.
