Ruwenzori shrew

The Ruwenzori Shrew ( Ruwenzorisorex suncoides ) is a living in central Africa shrew.

Ruwenzori shrews have a stocky compared to other shrews body rather short tail is nearly hairless and the fur is colored black. These animals can reach a body length 92-95 mm, which must be added a 55 to 62 millimeters long tail comes, and a weight of around 18 grams.

These animals inhabit the Rwenzori Mountains and adjacent regions in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Their habitat are rainforests at altitudes of 800-2100 meters.

Little is known about the habits of these shrews. You are likely to be bottom dwellers and feed on molluscs and insects.

Before the species was rediscovered recently in Burundi, the research were known only five copies. The IUCN lists it as threatened ( vulnerable ).
