S. D. Burman

Sachin Dev Burman ( SD Burman frequently only; Bengali: শচীন দেব বর্মণ Sacin Dev Barman, born October 1, 1906 in Kumilla, Bangladesh, † 31 October 1975, in Mumbai) was an Indian composer of Hindi film.

Life

Burman was one of the most respected and successful composers for Hindi movies. His compositions were sung mainly by the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Shamshad Begum, Mukesh and Talat Mahmood. He began his musical career in Bengal as a singer of folk and classical music and also composed music for radio.
