S. E. Hinton

Susan Eloise Hinton ( born July 22, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American writer.

Life

Hinton wrote since the 1960s, several award-winning novels for young people. With their debut The Outsiders, published in 1967, the 16- year-old was shot to fame and was regarded as the voice of youth. But the pressure of expectations led to a three- year-long writer's block, which she overcame in 1971 with now and here. In 1975 the novel Rumble Fish, who as The Outsiders served at the beginning of the 80s as a template for films of Francis Ford Coppola, in which many actors of the so-called Brat Pack generation began their careers. Matt Dillon played it in Rumble Fish and Tex in the filming of the lead role. In the first three film adaptations of her books Hinton was seen even in smaller roles, she starred in The Outsiders a nurse to Rumblefish she also wrote the screenplay.

For great achievements in youth literature Hinton received the 1988 Margaret A. Edwards Award first of the American Library Association. Cited: The Outsiders, now and here, Rumble Fish, Tex.

Some works have been translated recently by the new youth - writer Andreas Steinhöfel, the older translations are usually of Hans -Georg Noack.

In the books often deal with problems of socially disadvantaged young people in Hinton's birthplace Tulsa. Your heroes are usually young people of the lower class, who have to maintain socially despite an often difficult family environment. Often this friendships play a crucial role.
