S. M. Arif

Syed Mohammed Arif Saahab ( born January 29, 1944) is an Indian Badminton player whose great achievements are mainly from the adjoining his active career coaching career.

Career

Syed Mohammed Arif joined the University of Hyderabad with the B.Sc. from. At the National Institute of Sports in Patiala he graduated from a badminton coach. In 1974 he started in the Indian national team, whose head coach, he was in 1997. Among his protégés were Pullela Gopichand, PVV Lakshmi, Jwala Gutta and Saina Nehwal.

In 2000 he was awarded the Dronacharya Award, 2012, the Indian National Order Padma Shri. He also received the Meritorious Award Certificate of the Badminton World Federation.
