S.C. Marak

Salseng C. Marak (c. 1941) is an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress ( INC), which for several years was Chief Minister of the state of Meghalaya among others.

Life

Marak, a political protégé of Williamson A. Sangma, the first Chief Minister of the resulting 1972 State of Meghalaya, 1972 applied for the composite All People's Hill Leaders Conference ( APHLC ) successfully for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya and represented in the following years the constituency Resubelpara.

1975 appointed him Chief Minister Sangma Minister of State for the first time in its government, to which he belonged until 1978. After he joined the Indian National Congress in 1976, he was a candidate in 1978 for this in the parliamentary elections in the state and was again elected in the constituency Resubelpara for deputies in the Legislative Assembly. 1979 he was appointed by the then Chief Minister Brington Buhai Lyngdoh minister in his government. He was also the 1979-1988 General Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee ( MPCC ).

In the 1983 elections Marak was elected deputies of the Legislative Assembly in the constituency Resubelpara again. When a short time later held formation of a third government of Chief Minister Sangma in April 1983, he was again the Cabinet Minister, namely for construction work in public health. In 1985, he stepped on moral grounds after the so-called Jowai - PHE scandal of this office back. 1986 Sangma, however, called him back to minister in his cabinet and retained its function as a cabinet minister in the government of his successor, Purno Agitok Sangma until 1990.

Marak, who was between 1992 and 1993 the first president of the MPCC, was elected in 1993 for the fifth consecutive time deputies in the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya.
