Saarland national football team

The Saarland football team was the team of the Saarland Football Association ( SFB) in the years 1950 to 1956, as the then autonomous Saarland at this time was an independent member of the world football governing body FIFA. During this period the team wore from 19 internationals. Among other things, the Saarland met in qualifying for the World Cup 1954 on the German national team. History

On July 25, 1948, the Saarland Football Association ( SFV) was founded in Sulzbach. The first president was Willy Koch. From the season 1948/49, took the Saarland football clubs, due to the foreign policy situation, no longer in the German championship game operation part, but played in the French leagues. The first FC Saarbrücken played 1948/49, out of competition in the French second division and finished the season as the unofficial first table, but it had no rise authorization (for more details, refer to the history of Ligue 1).

On 17 July 1949, a request for accession of the SFV has been rejected for the French Football Federation with 609 votes against 299 votes in favor and 55 abstentions.

1951 reached the German Football Association and the Saarland Football Association at the FIFA authorization to return the 1.FC Saarbrücken and Borussia Neunkirchen in the German football league southwest. A year later the 1.FC Saarbrücken reached the final of the German Cup.

The Saarland participated in the qualification for the World Cup 1954. There, they met in the qualifying group to the Federal Republic of Germany and Norway and finished thanks to an away win in Oslo ahead of Norway in second place.

World Championships
