History

1929 was the first broadcast from the Saarland, which was then still called Saar and was under League of Nations administration sent. After the return of the Saar region in the German Empire as a result of the vote in 1935 " Reichssender Saarbrücken " was established as part of the " Reichs- Rundfunk GmbH Berlin".

In the immediate post-war Germany, Saarland made about the proposal to integrate the Saar in French territory ( " rattachement "), a special zone in the French occupation zone, therefore, established the military government 1945/46, outside their official station in Baden -Baden also "Radio Sarrebruck "as" Radio Saarbrücken " (17 March 1946), also with a German-language program. When the Einverleibungspläne had to be abandoned, the station received on December 31, 1947 a director employed ( Frederic Bill Mann) and was subordinated to the now established civilian Saarland Broadcasting Office. 1952 came the first Broadcasting Act for the Saarland into force as a result of Radio Saarbrücken was transformed into a " SR GmbH".

( A year later, the first television broadcast in the Saarland was broadcast, but not, as is often assumed, by this company, but by " Telesaar ", a German subsidiary of the French radio station " Europe 1 ". )

By 1955, the SR only sent a radio program on medium wave 1421 kHz, then also on FM 88.0 MHz.

With the political accession of the Saarland to the Federal Republic of Germany on 1 January 1957 heard the Saarland Radio GmbH to exist and the public national broadcaster for the Saarland Saarland Radio with names was included in the ARD. Three months after the "Day X" (July 6, 1959), which formed the economic connection of the Saarland to the Federal Republic, the SR beamed then again a TV program. First thing became very humble, even initially, only in the form of a half-hour regional broadcast of commercials, but quickly the TV program of the SR grew. A regional program for the Saarland in the early evening to 20 clock decorated with the National Show " Current Report " - From 1961 - until now. Since then takes over the Saarland Broadcasting also a share of the television community program of the ARD.

On April 5, 1969, the three former Southwest German broadcasters Saarland Radio, SDR and SWF started with a transmission evening from Saarbrücken their common third television program "Southwest 3", sometimes also referred to as "S3". It was the youngest of the five so-called "third television programs " of ARD. At first it was only three, sent from September 1969 on four weekdays and 1971 escalated into all week reaching program. For many years West had his three priorities in education and training programs as well as a weekly local evening, which was organized separately in the three provinces, including in the Saarland. As of August 30, 1998 S3 was in Saarland for SR West TV with numerous regional Saarland program windows and continue with the SWR (merged from SDR and SWF), jointly organized coat Program (Southwest TV).

On November 1, 1964 Europawelle Saar went on the air. At the same time launched the third radio program - first as a " guest worker program ", but then also filled with other items, and since January 7, 1980, is as SR 3 Saarlandwelle a regional and country program. The second radio program was developed in 1967 for demanding studio wave Saar. From 1972 to 1990, in cooperation with the South German Radio (SDR ) and the Southwest Radio (SWF) was operated from 1991 until the end of 1994 the program ( hr2 ) was for the most part with the second radio program of the Hessischer Rundfunk connected together. Since 1 January 1995, the program is named SR 2 Culture radio and has been a culture- oriented full program. The program was developed to train train to the full program until there were daily programs since 1971.

On 6 November 1989, the SR started his fourth radio program SR 4 It was a mixed program that radiated especially foreigners programs and live broadcasts from the Bundestag and Landtag since 1 March 1999. In the remaining time SR 4 took mainly the program of SR 2 and SR 3 Kulturradio Saarlandwelle. SR 4 also broadcast the radio broadcasts of the open channel in the Saarland. On 30 March 2002, that was, however, set by resolution of the Saarland Landtag.

With the merger of SDR and SWF to SWR on 1 September 1998 was the previous third television Southwest 3 in the two programs "Southwest Baden -Württemberg" and "Southwest Rhineland -Palatinate ," together "Southwest television," transferred. The SR took advantage of this restructuring at the start of his third television program under his own name SR southwest television, but still the largest part of the program was broadcast in conjunction with the "Southwest television". During the scan this program, the SR was launched on 2 October 1989 its regional teletext offer under the name Saar text.

In September 2005, was a transponder change in the digital satellite transmission from transponder 71 93 There is now a much cheaper transponders on the new transponder a little more bandwidth is available, the image quality could be slightly improved. The disadvantage of this was left " must-carry " area is that the SR Television will not since spread nationwide in the digital cable network. In Saarland, the SR television was not until September 2007 spread over the digital cable network, cable Germany, however, has taken the channel from 1 October 2007 to offer. As part of the quality initiative of the ARD of the Saarland Broadcasting is sent across Germany in the digital cable network from June 2, 2008, but the data rate, presumably for reasons of cost, on the satellite again of 4 Mbit / s is throttled to 3.7 Mbit / s.

Took place on September 11, 2006 due to the renaming of the "Southwest television" in " SWR " the change in the name of " SR Television"; the cooperation with the SWR Fernsehen (formerly Southwest TV ) remains. SR TV and the Southwest Broadcasting continue to send a jointly designed jacket program that va through regional programs at noon ( repeats) and in the eve track ( 18-20 clock ) as well as regional news programs will be supplemented ( at 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 21:45 clock ).

As the youngest radio program of the SR launched on 1 March 1999 UnserDing in cooperation with the newly launched DASDING by SWR.

As of January 2004, the Saarland Broadcasting has its radio structure slightly changed: the program of SR 4 was set, and UnserDing has been extended by the project to the young program.

On 26 November 2006, the 50th anniversary of the SR was celebrated with a ceremony in the Saarlandhalle. The Radio Symphony Orchestra ( RSO) Saarbrücken played under the baton of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski the 9th Symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Saarland Radio has produced a number of nationally known journalists and reporters. The most famous among them is Werner Zimmer, who was nicknamed "Mr. Sports Show ". From 1966 to 1993 he hosted the nation 's most- watched television sports program, the ARD sports show.
