Saavedra (Buenos Aires)

Saavedra is a district on the northern outskirts of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. It has 51,723 inhabitants (as of 2001) on an area of 5.9 km ². The population density is 8,767 inhabitants per km ². Saavedra is among the less densely populated parts of the city (the average Buenos Aires property has 15,200 inhabitants / km ²)

Saavedra is located close to Belgrano and Villa Urquiza. In the north Saavedra is bounded by Avenida General Paz. The neighborhood is part of the Comuna C7.

Description

Saavedra was named after Cornelio Saavedra (1759-1829), a major player in the May Revolution, which also later became president.

Main attraction of the district is the Parque Saavedra, who is popular for picnics and offers sports facilities.

The most famous son of the district is the tango singer Roberto Goyeneche. Saavedra was also founding place for the football club CA Platense. In addition, the main characters of the novel, El Sueño de los live by Adolfo Bioy Casares héroes in Saavedra.
