Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 25 to 35 millimeters. The name giver crescent-shaped bulges of Sichelflüger are colored gray and purple most pronounced in this species. The front wings are brown and strikingly patterned. In midfield, also three particularly striking golden ring stains are seen on the rear wing of the ring spot, however, is small.

Occurrence

The Linden Sichelflügler are found locally in Central Europe. They live in mixed deciduous forests and swamp forests and are not to be found on free-standing trees.

Way of life

Overwintering takes pupates in a spunbonded sheet as a doll instead.

Flight times and caterpillars

The moths fly in two generations from early May to June and in August, the second generation is usually incomplete. The caterpillars from the eggs of the first generation can be found from September to October, the second in July of the following year.

Food of the caterpillars

The caterpillars feed on lime trees ( Tilia ), oak (Quercus ), birch (Betula ) and alder ( Alnus ). They avoid places without adequate shelter.
