Sacca Sessola

The artificial island of Sacca Sessola located south of the city of Venice in the lagoon. The island is 520 meters long and up to 360 meters wide, with an area of ​​16 hectares. It reaches a height of four meters.

According to the census of 2001, no permanent inhabitants were detected.

History

The island has existed since 1870 and was created with the material obtained by trenching and channel recesses in the construction of the Stazione Marittima. The initially applied vegetables and vineyards had gradually warehouses soft until 1911, the island you chose as the destination for a hospital for cholera victims. The public hospital afterwards founded in 1914 still exists today.
