Sad Janka Kráľa

The Sad Janka Kráľa (literally Janko-Kráľ-Park/Garten ) is a park in Bratislava. the approximately 42 -acre park located in Petržalka. In the north it is bounded by the Danube River, east of the entrance to the Old Bridge ( Stary most), in the south of the D1 motorway and to the west of the entrance to the New Bridge ( Nový most ). Named the park since 1945, according to the Slovak poet Janko Kráľ.

The park in the years 1774-1776 was created. He is one of the oldest public parks in Europe. His former name was: 18th century - Mid 19th century Bruck (s ) au, Bruck (s ) Au ( g) e ( r) l; around 1850 in the Au; 1867 - c.1921 Aupark German, Hungarian Ligeti díszkert; ca 1921-1932 Slovak Petržalské sady; 1932-1945 Slovak Tyršove sady.

Influenced by the French Baroque, the roads were constructed in the form of an eight -pointed star. Each trail is named after a certain tree species and is lined by these (eg, alders, maples or willows ). In addition to numerous statues ( Petofi, Kráľ and others) is at the center of the park, the original Gothic spire located in the city center of Bratislava Franciscan church. Its current expansion of the park received in 1839, was in the 1970 redesign.

In the neighborhood of the park, on the eastern edge, there is the Petržalka Stadium and Arena Theatre. In the south of the park is the shopping center that carries the former German name of the park Aupark.
