Sadarak District

Sədərək is a rayon of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The capital of the district is the city Heydərabad. The district includes the exclave of Karki, which is located in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict since occupied by Armenia.

Geography

The district has an area of 151 km ² and is bordered on the north and east by Armenia, in the south of the Aras River to Iran. In the west there is a short border with Turkey.

Population

The rayon had 2009 14.000 inhabitants. these are spread over three villages and a larger settlement.

Economy

In the agriculture sector is almost exclusively operated a winery represents the only processing plant dar. >

Culture

In the cities Sədərək, Gultepe Chanag and Kerki are archaeological sites. In Sədərək lie the ruins of a fortress of the kingdom of Urartu.
