Saenuri Party

The Saenuri Party (Korean: 새누리 당, Saenuri - dang, translated " New World Party ", English New Frontier Party ), until February 2012 under the name Grand National Party, GNP (Korean: Hannara - dang ), is a conservative party in South Korea. It was formed in 1997 from the merger of various right-wing parties. At their precursors include the Democratic Republican Party Park Chung -hee, the Democratic Justice Party, which served the President Chun Doo -hwan and Roh Tae -woo, but also the New Korea Party of the then incumbent President Kim Young- sam.

The Saenuri Party is based on the traditionally conservative power elite of South Korea and to the rural population. Their stronghold is the Gyeongsang region.

The Saenuri - dang is, in large part, to a free market economy, a " lean state " free trade, low taxes and responsible entrepreneurship. It promotes a close alliance with the U.S. and the West and particularly sharply criticized human rights violations in North Korea.

The Saenuri - dang is a member of the International Democratic Union. Its chairman is Kang Jae- seop. In the parliamentary elections of 2004 she obtained 35.8 % of the vote and 121 of the 299 seats in the National Assembly and thus became the strongest opposition force against President Roh Moo -hyun and his liberal Uri Party. In the parliamentary elections on 9 April 2008, which counted as a mood test for President Lee, the Grand National Party won the most votes in a low turnout. It replaced the emerged from the Uri Party liberal United Democratic Party from the strongest parliamentary group and won 153 of 299 seats, the absolute majority in parliament. Ahead of the South Korean parliamentary election, 2012, the Grand National Party was renamed in February 2012 in Saenuri party.

The last parliamentary elections were on 11 April 2012. Saenuri The ruling party reached 152 of 300 seats.
