Saer de Quincy, 1st Earl of Winchester

Saer de Quincy († November 3, 1219 before Damietta ) was an Anglo -Norman nobleman as the 1st Earl of Winchester. He was a son of Robert de Quincy and the Orabilis of Mar. His family was based in Northamptonshire and versippt with the Scottish royal house. Through this relationship, the family also held estates in the Scottish counties of Fife, Perth and Lothian.

Saer married about the year 1190 Margaret de Beaumont († 1235 ), a daughter of Robert de Beaumont, 3rd Earl of Leicester. When in 1204 his brother Robert de Beaumont, 4th Earl of Leicester, died childless, his wife inherited half of the Beaumont- estates in England, where their share was primarily focused on the Channel coast. As a supporter of King John Lands in the fight against Philip II Augustus of France Saer 1207 was created Earl of Winchester.

Then he stood I of Scotland, where he helped in the suppression of revolts clan in the Scottish Highlands in the service of King William. In subsequent years, he joined forces with his oldest son in England, the revolt of the barons against King John to.
