Safien
Safien place
Safien ( in the local dialect: [ sɔ fjə ː ] or [ sɔ UTF ː ]; Romansh Stussavgia / i ) until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the Safiental. It is in the same circuit ( comprising except Safien also Tenna ) of the district Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Valendas, Versam and Tenna for new community Safiental.
The origin of both the German and the Roman form of the name is unclear.

History
Safien is first mentioned in 1219 in the form Stosavia; Bronze -temporal and Roman finds indicate an early settlement of the area. Between 1300 and 1310, the first Walser likely to have been settled in the previously managed only of novels area; at least to the early 16th century still seems a part of the population to have spoken Romanesque. Then the basic rule over most of the Safiental belonged to the monastery Domleschger Cazis. 1526 the Reformation was introduced.
Until 1851 Safien formed, which is already attested in 1362 as an independently acting community with Ammann and jury, own community court in the high court Thusis. The construction of the road to Versam in 1882-1885 led to the Safiental farmers sold their cattle mainly on markets in northern Italy, more towards the north. In the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, a large exodus took place, as a result created numerous desertions.
Museum of Local History
In Camana - Boda, one of the highest year-round inhabited settlements in the Safientales to almost 1,800 m above sea level. M. midst of other ancient Walser houses, is the local history museum Althus.
The focus of this museum is the house itself and its facilities as a residential building with Stubä ( room ), Chuchi (kitchen), Chòòltchammerä (milk cellar ), Schithus (wood storage room ), Spiicher (bedroom ) and Chäller (basement).
Traffic
The town has along with the station Versam Versam - Safien on the railway line Reichenau-Tamins-Disentis/Mustér.
