History

The eponymous capital, the greater community Saga was before 1960, the capital of the former district and the seat of two district governors ( "circle chiefs " ) (Tib.. Rdzong dpon ).

The first foreigner who visited this place, were the Indians Nain Singh (1865) and the British CG Ryder and Cecil Rawling ( 1904). Sven Hedin has also visited this place. After Rawling the place consisted of about 25 mud houses in 1904. Like today, he was also formerly of the important connecting to Ngari and was one of the main stations along the way to change the transport Horse ( Tib. rta zam ).

Today's meaning

Today Saga is important garrison town of the Chinese People's Army. Saga consists of numerous military barracks, administrative buildings, a Chinese mall and several Chinese hotels that are frequented by travelers to Ngari.
