Saha, Estonia

Saha ( German Saage ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the Estonian Harju County. It belongs to the rural community Jõelähtme. Saha has 118 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2007).

The village Saha was first mentioned in documents in 1241. The settlement site is probably much older.

Half a kilometer away from the village center is situated on a hill, the chapel of Saha. The first sacral building was probably built there in 1220, made of wood, during a revolt in 1223 but destroyed. In the same year, probably the cemetery of Saha was created.

The preserved to this day in its original aspect of God stone house probably dates from the first half of the 15th century. The church is well proportioned. It is not of the choir room. Noteworthy is the northwestern corner tower with its spiral staircase. The building served with its thick walls, fortified doors and the tall, narrow windows and defense purposes recognizable. It was extensively renovated in 1968-71.
