Saint Clara (Hebrew קלרה הקדושה, Clara haKedoscha ) is an Israeli film by Ari Folman from the year 1996. It is based on a novel by Pavel Kohout. Lucy Dubinchik and Maya Maron made their debut here.
Action
An unknown city in the Negev desert, in an unspecified alternate future of the year 1999:
A school class gets high marks for a math test. As the director Tissona suspects fraud, he undergoes each and every student an interrogation. Its main suspects are the model student Elinor Galash and the three school Rowdies Eddie, Rosy and Libby. Those blaming Galit Biron, which in turn gives the blame to the new Russian-born Clara admits they have Galit given the answers, because they had the answers suddenly in my head. It turns out that Clara is a psychic reading.
When Eddie told his parents about it, they are surprised that he now for the first time talking about girls. His parents miss their misspent youth. Clara says all the answers. On the same day, it turns out that Eddie and Rosy are in love with Clara. Clara herself is in love with Eddie.
Later Tissona visited the house with the teacher Clara. Clara's mother reveals Tissona that she and her brother once had the same vision, but that it then disappeared when she fell in love. Then Clara gets a vision that Eddie and co. hanged and burned the statue of Golda Meir. They run to school and stop the fire. Tissona Clara says that she can fall in love only when she led with him a revolution. The next day Tissona Eddie warns Clara, because he has discovered that the feelings between Clara and Eddie based on reciprocity, and he wants to stop it. He tells him that she was a witch, hanging at home animals on the wall. When the teacher Clara brings to an equation on the board, however, does not make sense, according to Elinor, this looks out the window. The neighboring factory burns, and the sky is bright red. Suddenly a large bird crashes into the classroom. All freeze in fear.

The next day, Clara leads a rebellion at school. On the same day Clara foresees an earthquake. Almost flees the city. Eddie invites Clara to the movies, and on the same evening, an earthquake breaks out.
Awards
The film was awarded in six categories by the Ophir Award. Among other things, he won the prize for best film and best director. Lucy Dubinchik Award for Best Actress.
On the film festival in Karlovy Vary Saint Clara was listed in 1996 and won the Special Jury Prize.
Reviews
In the magazine Variety, the film was described as very original. With its aggressive energy and loud music he had the reviewer 's opinion the potential to convince a young audience.
Also in the newspaper San Francisco Chronicle Saint Clara was praised as an unusual, original film.
