Saint-Cyr-en-Val

Saint- Cyr -en -Val is a commune with 3066 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Loiret in the Centre region.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Orléans, on the border of two different natural landscapes, the Loire Valley, which includes the northern part of the municipality, and the Sologne in the south. The municipality is crossed by the river Dhuy.

History

Saint- Cyr -en -Val has been inhabited for several thousand years. In the Middle Ages, the village has at the castle of La Mothe ( which was later rebuilt ) developed. Joan of Arc has been staying here on April 29, 1429 just before they liberated the city of Orléans by the English.

The municipality has sold an area of ​​several square kilometers to the community of Orléans in 1959. On the selling area was developed in the 1960s, the district of " La Source " and the campus of the University of Orleans, and the park " Parc Floral ", where the source of the river Loiret is seen.
