Saint Helena Cuckoo

The Saint Helena Cuckoo ( Nannococcyx psix ) is an extinct species of bird in the family of cuckoo birds. He is the only species of the genus Nannococcyx.

From St. Helena Cuckoo only a fragment of the right humerus is known that in 1970 found by John William Bailey in the Prosperous Bay on St. Helena and 1975 described by Storrs Lovejoy Olson scientifically. The bone fragment is light brown, not mineralized and has a length of 14.2 mm. Maybe the bird was but greater than indicated by the fragment, as some extinct bird species such as the St. Helena St. Helena Hoopoe gigantism had. The St. Helena Cuckoo was probably a forest bird and died due to habitat destruction in the 18th century.
