Saint-Loup-Nantouard

Saint -Loup- Nantouard is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saint -Loup- Nantouard situated at an altitude of 222 m above sea level, 10 km east of Gray and about 31 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in the basin of the Saone, on the plateau, which connects south to the lowlands of the Morte.

The area of ​​7.64 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. And is bordered on the north by the territory of the Morte and to the west by the valley of its tributary Teuillot. The Morte flows through a valley about one kilometer wide and provides for drainage west to the Saône. To the south, the municipality's area extends to the adjacent plateau, which averages to 220 m. It is composed of sediments derived from the Tertiary and Upper Jurassic time. The fertile alluvial soils of the valley of the Morte and the plateau are mainly used for agricultural purposes. On the south is the forest of the Grand Bois. Here the highest elevation of Saint -Loup- Nantouard is achieved with 243 m.

The municipality is double (222 m) and Nantouard (205 m), both located south of the Morte on the plateau of the two towns of Saint- Loup. Neighboring municipalities of Saint -Loup- Saint- Nantouard are Broing and Sauvigney -lès -Gray in the north, Choye in the east, the south and Villefrancon Velesmes - Échevanne in the West.

History

Saint- Loup is first mentioned in the year 1282nd In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Saint- Loup made ​​a fief to which since 1292 also Nantouard belonged. Built around 1292 the castle in 1637, was put in the context of the Thirty Years War by troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar on fire. Together with the Franche -Comté reached Saint- Loup with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since the beginning of the 19th century the town of Saint -Loup- lès-Gray was called to distinguish it from other towns of the same name. To a field change occurred in 1972 when the previously independent Nantouard with Saint- Loup to Saint-Loup- double municipality Nantouard merged. Today Saint -Loup- Nantouard is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Val de Gray.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Loup was rebuilt in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. It has a rich interior, including a baptismal font from the 15th century, two gilded statues (18th century) and various relics from the 16th and 17th centuries. Near the Morte is the Château de Saint- Loup, which originally dates from the late 13th century. From this time the tower foundations remain. The new castle was built in the 18th and 19th centuries. Noteworthy are also the chapel with its Gothic interior and the large landscape park.

Population

With 120 inhabitants (2007 ) Saint -Loup- Nantouard one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 173 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint -Loup- Nantouard was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
