Saint Marcellina

Marcellina (* 330-335 in Trier, † by 398 in Milan ) was an early Christian consecrated virgin and saints. She was the older sister of the church father Ambrose.

Marcellina was probably born around 330 in Trier, the daughter of the Roman prefect Aurelius Ambrosius. Even before the death of her father, she traveled to Rome. At the point at which it is supposed to have lived then with her brother, according to tradition, the church stands today Sant'Ambrogio della Massima. Marcellina decided very soon for a life in imitation of Christ and vowed eternal virginity for the sake of the Kingdom. As Virgin led an ascetic life of prayer and solitude. On Christmas Day in the year 353, she received the veil of consecrated virgin from the hand of Pope Liberius. The homily of Pope at their ordination is narrated from the holy Ambrose

After the collection of Ambrose Bishop of Milan this called his sister to him. Marcellina supported him in his work and looked under the consecrated virgins of Milan. Ambrose dedicated his work on the Christian virginity, which he completed in 377.

Marcellina survived her brother and died around 398 and was buried in the crypt under the altar of the Ambrosian basilica in Milan and venerated as a saint. Your feast day is July 17.
