Saint-Martin-des-Puits

Saint -Martin -des- Puits ( Catalan: Sant Martin dels Poses ) is a commune with 24 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Aude department ( Languedoc- Roussillon ). It is one of the smallest municipalities of France. The inhabitants call themselves Podomartinais.

Location

Place and Church of Saint- Martin -des- Puits lie at about 200 meters above sea level. inst on a bend of the river Orbieu in the mountainous and rocky landscape of the Corbières, in the département road 212, just over 11 km ( driving distance ) southwest of the former abbey of Sainte -Marie de Lagrasse.

The residents of Saint -Martin -des- Puits lived for centuries - largely on the principle of self-sufficiency - from the proceeds of their stony fields. Also, wine was grown on a small scale. Today the tourists in the apartments ( gîtes ) play an important role in the revenue of the town.

History

On the history of the place are little information, but is a monastery mentioned for the 9th century. Towards the end of the 11th century included the lands of the village with a family name Durfour; Bertrand de Durfour but had to cede to the abbey of Lagrasse his possession. Starting a - dependent on the abbey of Lagrasse and continuing until the French Revolution - priory is occupied for the year 1093.
