Saint- Maurice- Crillat is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Saint- Maurice- Crillat is located at 760 m above sea level. M., approximately 25 km east-southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a gently sloping plateau to the west to the east of Ain ​​Valley, at the foot of the chains of the high Jura with the Forêt de Prénovel.

History

By the year 1298 Saint- Maurice was one of the gentlemen of Clairvaux and Crillat, then it made with Crillat own rule. In the early 14th century, Saint- Maurice certain freedom rights were granted. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

During the French Revolution the place was called Mont Fleury. To avoid confusion with other municipalities of the same name, Saint- Maurice in 1938 was officially renamed Saint- Maurice-en -Montagne. Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice was built in the 17th century in Gothic style forms. It has a rich interior from the building time. The ruins of the keep from the 16th century are preserved. In Crillat are a chapel and remains of the medieval castle from the 13th century.
