Saint-Offenge-Dessus

Saint- Offenge -Dessus is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Saint- Offenge -Dessus is situated 630 m above sea level. M., about 20 km north- northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The farming village in the foothills of the Alps extends a scenic location on the lower western slopes of the Montagne de Bange ( part of the massif of the Wallows ) above the valley section of Sierre.

The area of 7.71 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Alpine foothills. The western boundary runs along the cut in a Sierre erosion valley which drained with their tributaries, the area west of the Lac du Bourget. From the valley of Sierre, the municipality's area extends eastward across the meadows lined with a slope of Saint- Offenge -Dessus. This is followed by an ever more steeply wooded and partly interrupted by rocky walls slope of the edge chain of the Massif of bauges connects. With 1449 m above sea level. M. is achieved at the height north of the Col de la Cochette the highest elevation of Saint- Offenge -Dessus. In a long narrow edge of the municipality extends southward to the ground on the plateau of Mont Revard ( 1360 m above sea level. M. ).

History

Saint- Offenge is first mentioned in a document is in the 13th century. The place name comes from the St. Euphemia, Martyr of Chalcedon (city ) back. In the Middle Ages Saint- Offenge -Dessus belonged to the manor of La Batie - d'Albanais.

The village church was built in 1849 in the style of Sardinian Neoclassicism.

Population

With 279 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint- Offenge -Dessus is one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population declined in the 20th century, an increase in population was recorded since the early 1980s thanks to the beautiful residential area again.

Economy and infrastructure

Saint- Offenge -Dessus was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, developed in recent times various operations of the local small business sector.
