Saint-Paul-en-Chablais

Saint- Paul-en -Chablais is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint- Paul-en -Chablais is located at 820 m above sea level. M., 12 km east of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ), above Evian- les- Bains. The village is located in the Chablais, a scenic location on the high plateau of the Pays de Gavot, approximately 450 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva, in the Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​14.45 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the high plateau in the central Chablais. The plateau is slightly inclined towards the north, before going on underneath of Saint- Paul-en -Chablais in a steep wooded slope. It is drained by several rivers, including the Ruisseau de Montigny and the Ruisseau de Coppy, north to Lake Geneva. To the south extends the communal land on a partially wooded broad back with the Lac de la Beunaz and four other small forest lakes up to the Ugine, a right side of the creek Dranse d' Abondance. Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Paul-en -Chablais are Neuvecelle and Maxilly -sur -Léman to the north, and Lugrin Bernex in the east, the south and Vinzier Larringes in the West.

History

The village was called up to the year 1000 Cyriel. Around this time, founded the Benedictine monks here a priory, cleared parts of the Pays de Gavot and made ​​the land arable. The village has now received the name of Saint- Paul. A new (temporary ) name change was made in Bellevue, as Savoy in 1792 came to France. In order to better distinguish the town from other towns of the same name, 1935, the additional en Chablais was added.

Attractions
