Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux

Saint -Paul -Trois -Châteaux is a municipality in the south of France, in the department of Drôme. The city is with 8707 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) the capital of the canton of Saint -Paul -Trois -Châteaux.

Geography

Saint -Paul -Trois -Châteaux is located in the Provence part of the Drôme Provençale, it is located in the extreme south. To the west is a side channel of the Rhône and the nuclear power plant Tricastin. In the east and south of the site is surrounded by wooded or cultivated hills.

Etymology

Originally called the town of Saint -Paul -en- Tricastin. Later Tricastin was seen as Latin expression for Trois -Châteaux ( three locks).
