Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University

The State Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg (Russian: Санкт - Петербургский Государственный Политехнический Университет, literally Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University, shortly СПбГПУ / SPbSPU ) is one of the oldest technical universities in St. Petersburg and is considered one of the most prestigious technical universities in Russia.

History

Significant influence on the founding of the National Polytechnical Institute St. Petersburg " Peter the Great " (Russian Политехнический Институт императора Петра Великого ) in 1899 had the Russian statesman Sergei Witte, who saw an important prerequisite for the industrialization of Tsarist Russia in it. The first year of students was enrolled on October 1, 1902. The facility initially consisted of the four faculties of economics, shipbuilding, electro-mechanics and metallurgy.
