Saint-Pierre (Bas-Rhin)

Saint- Pierre ( St. Peter German ) is a commune with 580 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. The inhabitants are called Saint- Pierrois. Saint- Pierre is a member of the Association of Municipalities Piedmont de Barr.

Geography

The Andlau, a tributary of the River Ill, flows through the municipal area. Saint- Pierre is situated in the Upper Rhine Plain, 14 kilometers north of Sélestat and 27 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg.

Neighboring communities of Saint- Pierre in the north are Barr, cell Willer in the northeast, Stotz home in the East, Epfig in the south, Eichhoffen in the West and Central Mountain Home in the Northwest.

The coat of arms shows blue in a superior right arm in gold, holding an upwards pointing key in silver. The key represents the of the eponymous Simon Peter attribute

Culture and sights

Saint- Pierre is nationally represented with two flowers in the Conseil des villes et villages fleuris ( National Council of the flourishing cities and villages ). The " flowers " are awarded as part of a regional competition, a maximum of four flowers can be achieved.

  • The church of Saint - Arbogast bears the date 1852 on the portal.
  • The Château d' Ittenwiller ( Itten hamlet ) is based on a gegrüundeten in 1115 Augustinerpriorei. 1661 was the Bishop of Strasbourg restore the ruined building and expand to a castle. It is entered in the additional list of Monuments historiques since 1937 and is owned by the Andlau family.
  • In the 19th century there were up to seven active mills on Muhlbach. Three of them are still preserved.

An important branch of industry in Saint -Pierre is the wine, the place belongs to the Alsace Wine Route. The importance of tourism is increasing.
